Frequently Asked Questions About Cooking Italian Chicken Breasts:

Can I use frozen chicken breasts?

I would suggest using fresh chicken breasts for this recipe. However, you can use frozen chicken breasts. If you use frozen chicken breasts, you’ll want to make sure they are fully thawed and use a bit more seasoning to allow the flavor to penetrate the chicken and avoid creating a dull dish.

Can I prepare this recipe in advance?

Yes! This is a great option for busy days. Just season the chicken breasts well and refrigerate them. You can even marinade them overnight in a Ziplock bag. The next day, you can simply add it to the slow cooker, set it and forget it (for a few hours).

What can I serve with Italian chicken breasts?

Side dishes such as rice, pasta, salad, or just greens and vegetables pair wonderfully with the dish. If you want bread to go with it, garlic bread is a fantastic side dish too.

How do I store the leftovers?

Airtight containers are the best for any leftovers. This allows you to store your leftovers for up to 3 days. You could also freeze the dish for about 3 months. When you’re ready to eat it, just allow the dish to completely that then heat it on your stove or warm it in the microwave.

Can I use different cuts of chicken?

You can use the whole chicken. If you prefer smaller portions, you can use chicken thighs or drumsticks as well. Any meat that includes bones generally requires longer cooking time than boneless meat of the same size. Make sure to adjust the time and always ensure that the chicken’s internal temperature is at least 165°F.

Tips to Prepare the Perfect Slow Cooker Italian Seasoned Chicken Breasts:

Select the right kind of chicken: In my opinion, the ideal chicken choice is lean skinless and boneless chicken breast. But if you are looking for a juicer dish, using bone-in thighs or chicken breasts might be a better choice. Just remember to adjust the cooking time as the bone-in chicken will take a longer time to cook.

Adjust the seasoning to your tastebuds: Paprika, basil, garlic and onion powder are ideal for this dish. But you can also enhance the flavor of the dish with oregano, basil or any fresh herb of your choice. And if you enjoy a bit of actual spice, don’t be afraid to add some red pepper flakes!

Add some veggies to your dish: Add vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, onion or bell peppers to boost the nutritional value of the dish. Including veggies enhances the flavor of the chicken and will help prevent it from drying out during cooking.

Use white wine instead of chicken broth: Another way to change the flavor a bit is to cook this dish in white cooking wine instead of chicken broth. The wine will serve the same purpose as the broth, but a slightly different taste.

Keep an eye on the temperature: Unfortunately, all slow cookers are a bit different when it comes to cooking time. Be sure to start keeping an eye on your chicken at least an hour before it could be ready. Using a handy meat thermometer will help ensure you remove it at the perfect temperature (165°F). And case you’re wondering, I use (and definitely recommend) a Ninja slow cooker for all slow cooker recipes.

Add a garnish: If you’re cooking to impress, this is the perfect dish for garnishing. Add fresh spinach or a splash of balsamic vinegar to add beautiful a finishing touch.
