FAQs About This Recipe

Can I use a different type of pasta?

Yes! This recipe is perfect for any type of pasta. The rigatoni and rotini can be substituted for your favorite types of pasta or any that you might have left over in the pantry.

How should I store this recipe?

We use 3.4 cup glass meal prep containers for this recipe. This size makes it very easy to place each serving in a separate container for easy storage, meal prep and reheating. If you plan to reheat this meal in the oven, make sure the storage container you use is oven-friendly up to at least 400 degrees.

Tips From the Kitchen

If you LOVE pepperoni: There’s really no limit to how many pepperonis you can put on or in this recipe. When we normally make this recipe, we completely cover the top of the cheese with pepperonis (we didn’t this time, for photograph purposes!). And (big pepperoni pro-tip here)…. if you want even more pepperoni in every bite, we’d recommend cutting a handful of pepperonis into quarters and mixing them in with the sauce.

Go heavy on the sauce: Anytime you’re refrigerating and reheating a saucy dish, it will dry out a bit. If you’re using this recipe for meal prepping, you’ll definitely want to add a good amount of sauce (more than you normally do by 1.25 to 1.5) to the dish. But, of course, sauciness is a preference so make sure you tailor it to your taste buds!

Reheat without burning: Speaking of sauce, when reheating… you may want to add MORE sauce. We’ve found that using a fork or knife to cut around where the cheese meets the glass meal prep container, lifting the cheese and/or cheese and pasta and placing sauce underneath really helps makes the dish reheat perfectly in the microwave or oven. Otherwise, the dish can dry out a bit and taste a little bland and more like leftovers. 🙁
