FAQs About this Egg and Cheese Bagel Recipe
Can I make this bagel ahead of time?
Yes, this bagel is a great option to prepare as a grab-and-go breakfast. Simply cook the eggs (and any other cooked ingredient you add to it, such as bacon) and assemble the bagels. Once they’re assembled, wrap them in tin foil or place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat them in the microwave or the oven prior to consuming.
What’s the best way to store these?
I recommend assembling these bagels and storing them in an airtight container or wrapped in tinfoil if you want an even easier grab-and-go option. When stored properly, these bagels should last 3 days in the refrigerator.
Can I use different types of cheese?
Definitely! Pepperjack cheese is my personal preference when it comes to egg and cheese bagels. However, this recipe can be made the same way with swiss, pepper jack, provolone, mozzarella, gouda or any other cheese that you prefer.
What kind of bacon should I add to this recipe?
I would suggest using regular or thick-cut bacon for this recipe, making sure to cook it so that it’s crispy.
How to Make These Bagels Your Own
Choose the right bagel: Quality, fresh bagels are always the best. I like my bagels plain (bland, I know), but you can use any type of bagel you prefer for this recipe.
Add meat: If you enjoy a meatier sandwich, bacon, ham or turkey are great options to add to this simple recipe. But of course, just make sure any uncooked meat is cooked prior to assembling the bagels.
Consider other toppings: A few other non-meat ingredients that make great additions to this breakfast bagel are avocado, spinach red onion or slices or tomato.
Make the eggs cheesy: Once your scrambled eggs move from scrambled to solid, it’s the perfect time to add cheese and scramble, flip them. This timing allows you to make the cheesiest eggs possible without burning the cheese, or the eggs.
Melt the cheese slices: As the eggs are almost finished cooking, I like to form them to the approximate size of the bagel in the pan by pressing the spatula on top. Then I add a slice of cheese and let it melt for a minute or so on low heat, before placing it on the bagel.
Toast the bagel: For a crunchy bagel toast, toast the two halves of your bagel until they turn golden brown or reach your desired level of toastiness.
Use the oven: Another way to toast your bagel is by using your oven. Simply slice your bagel in half and place it upside down on a baking sheet. Then add a slice of cheese to both sides of the bagel. Once the cheese is melted and the bagel has reached a golden-brown color, remove it from the oven. Then just place your eggs between the bagel slices and enjoy.
Make it saucy: A nice sauce can really elevate these bagels. Try them with creamy sriracha (my favorite!), pesto, sun-dried tomato pesto, aioli, or guacamole.
